Questions about custom pet portraits, answered

Everything most people want to know before they upload a photo — likeness, styles, prints, shipping, and what happens if the preview isn't right. If yours isn't here, email hello@petportrait.io.

Will it actually look like my pet?

Yes — that’s the whole point. We preserve the markings, coloring, and expression — head to tail — then render it in a real artistic medium. It’s a portrait of your pet, not a generic painting that vaguely resembles them.

Is this AI or a real painting?

Both. Generative AI does the painting, trained on centuries of classical media — but you see the result and choose the one you love before you order. Nothing ships you didn’t approve. The print itself is real: archival giclée, hand-mounted, matted and framed by our print partners.

Is it just a headshot, or the whole pet?

Whatever your photo shows. A close-up makes a classic head-and-shoulders portrait; a full-body photo lets us paint the whole pet — and drop them into a scene like Astronaut, Knight, or Samurai with one tap. The more detail you bring, the more we run with it.

Do I have to pay before I see it?

Never. Your first preview is completely free and needs no card and no account. You only pay if you love it and want the full-resolution, downloadable file or a framed print.

How long does a pet portrait take?

The free preview generates in about 40 seconds from a single photo upload. If you order the downloadable file, it arrives in your inbox within 24 hours — usually within minutes. Framed prints are produced in 3–5 business days, then ship in 3–7 days depending on your location — total delivery window is 5–12 business days worldwide.

What kind of photo works best?

Any clear, well-lit photo — a close-up for a classic portrait, or a full-body shot to send them on an adventure. Don’t overthink it; the phone photo you already love is usually more than enough. Not sure yours works? The full photo + pricing guide walks through blurry-photo cases and shows real before/after examples.

Does it work for any animal?

Yes — we paint dogs and cats every day, plus rabbits, birds, lizards, llamas, guinea pigs, and every other good egg. Fur, feathers or scales — if it’s your animal, we’ll paint it.

How are the prints made?

Orders are produced by Prodigi — one of the world’s largest fine-art print networks — on 200gsm archival paper, hand-mounted with a snow-white mat and framed behind acrylic glazing. Made to order the week you order and shipped directly to your door, worldwide.
