Privacy Policy

Last updated August 10, 2026. Your photos are yours. Here's exactly what we collect, who we share it with, and the rights you have over it.

Plain-language summary, written to reflect how the service actually works. It is not legal advice. Before relying on it, confirm the business details, retention practices, and governing-law choices with a qualified attorney for your jurisdiction.

The short version

You upload a photo, we turn it into a portrait, and we never sell your photos or your personal information. We share data only with the service providers that make the product work (listed below), and you can ask us to delete your data at any time. The rest of this page is the detail.

Who we are

This service is operated by Pet Portrait Co. ("Pet Portrait," "we," "us," or "our"), with a registered mailing address available on request at hello@petportrait.io. For any privacy question, or to exercise a right described below, contact us at hello@petportrait.io. We are the controller of the personal information described here.

What we collect

  • The pet photo you upload — to generate your portrait. We compress it in your browser and store it in private cloud storage.
  • Style and custom-prompt text — the style you choose and, if you write a custom prompt, that text (which we screen for prohibited content before generating).
  • Your email address — if you give it to us to receive a preview, to ask a question, or when you check out. If you submit your email to receive a preview and don't complete a purchase, we may send you a reminder email (you can opt out at any time using the unsubscribe link or by emailing us).
  • Order & shipping details — when you buy a print: the recipient name and shipping address, the items ordered, and order/transaction identifiers. We do not receive or store your full card number — payment is handled entirely by Stripe (see below).
  • A random session identifier — stored in your browser's local storage to link your preview, cart, and order. It is not tied to your real-world identity unless you give us your email.
  • Usage and device data — basic analytics about how the site is used, and standard technical data (such as IP address and browser type) that our hosting and analytics providers process to deliver and secure the site. Depending on configuration, analytics may include cookie-based tools (see "Cookies and local storage").
  • Reviews — if you submit a review, the name, location, pet name, rating, text, and any photo you choose to include (published only after we approve it).

How we use your information

  • To generate, preview, and deliver your portrait and any print you order.
  • To process payments, fulfill and ship orders, and provide customer support.
  • To send service emails (previews, receipts, download links, and shipping updates).
  • To send preview-reminder emails, which you can opt out of at any time.
  • To screen custom prompts for prohibited content and keep the service safe and lawful.
  • To understand and improve how the product is used, and to prevent abuse and fraud.

Where the GDPR or similar laws apply, we rely on these legal bases: performance of our contract with you (to deliver portraits and orders), your consent (for optional reminder emails and non-essential cookies/analytics), and our legitimate interests (to secure, understand, and improve the service), as well as compliance with legal obligations.

How your photo is used by our AI provider

To create your portrait, your uploaded photo and the generation prompt are sent to our AI image-generation provider, Google (Gemini API). We do not use your photos to train our own models, and we do not sell them or use them for advertising. Google's processing of the data we send is governed by its own terms and privacy commitments; we encourage you to review Google's current API data-use terms. We retain your uploaded photo and the generated artwork as described under "How long we keep your data."

Who we share data with

We share personal information only with the service providers ("sub-processors") needed to run the product, each acting under its own terms and only for the purposes we direct:

  • Google (Gemini API) — AI image generation (your photo + prompt).
  • Stripe — payment processing and checkout (your payment details and email).
  • Prodigi — print fulfillment, when you order a print (recipient name, shipping address, email, and a temporary link to your artwork).
  • Resend — sending our transactional and reminder emails (your email address and message content).
  • Supabase — our database and file storage (uploads, generated images, orders).
  • Netlify — website and serverless hosting (technical/usage data).
  • Analytics providers — where enabled, Google Analytics and/or Meta (Facebook) Pixel and/or Plausible, to measure usage (see "Cookies and local storage").

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not "share" it for cross-context behavioral advertising as those terms are defined under California law, except to the extent enabling an advertising pixel (such as the Meta Pixel) may be considered a sale or share — in which case you can opt out as described under "Your choices and rights." We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.

Cookies and local storage

The core site uses your browser's local storage (not advertising cookies) to keep your session identifier, your cart, and any applied promo code so the product works. These are essential to providing the service. If analytics tools are enabled, they may set their own cookies: Google Analytics and the Meta Pixel use cookies and may collect device and usage data under their own policies; Plausible, if used, is cookieless. Where required by law (for example in the EU and UK), we will ask for your consent before setting non-essential cookies, and you can withdraw consent or use your browser's controls at any time.

How long we keep your data

We keep your uploaded photo and generated portrait for as long as needed to deliver and support your portrait and any order, and to honor our satisfaction guarantee and handle disputes. We keep order and transaction records for as long as required for accounting, tax, and legal purposes. We keep preview-lead emails until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. When data is no longer needed, we delete or anonymize it. You can ask us to delete your photo and personal data sooner at any time (see below).

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live (including under the EU/UK GDPR and the California CCPA/CPRA), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information; to opt out of marketing emails; to opt out of the sale/share of personal information or targeted advertising; and to withdraw consent. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

  • Delete your data: email hello@petportrait.io and we will delete your uploaded photo, generated portraits, and associated personal data, subject to records we must keep by law.
  • Access or export: email us and we will provide a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Unsubscribe: use the link in any reminder email, or email us.
  • Opt out of analytics/advertising cookies: decline non-essential cookies where prompted, or use browser controls and the providers' own opt-out tools.

We will verify your request using the email associated with your activity. EU/UK users also have the right to lodge a complaint with their local data-protection authority.

International transfers

Our providers may process your data in the United States and other countries. Where we transfer personal data out of the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

Children

The service is intended for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16 (or under 13 where permitted by local law). If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

We use reputable providers and reasonable technical measures — including private storage for uploads, access controls, and encrypted connections — to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will revise the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, take additional steps where required by law.
